Obituary for Harold Stephenson Parks

Harold Stephenson Parks
Harold Stephenson Parks, age 85, of Spring Hill, TN passed away peacefully on June 27, 2019, surrounded by his family. Born in Spring Hill, TN in 1933, Harold was one of five children of the late Wiley Hill Parks and Willie Lawrence Parks. He graduated in 1951 from Spring Hill High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked at the U.S. Post Office in Spring Hill starting in 1954. Harold then became a U.S. Postmaster in 1964, was honored as Postmaster of the Year in 1969 for the Tennessee Branch of the National League of Postmasters, and served in the post office until he retired in 1988. Harold was a member of the Spring Hill Masonic Lodge for 50 years. He enjoyed tending to his garden, tinkering with his cars, caring for his cats and dogs, and spending time with his family. He loved camping trips, fixing things, and Gospel music. Harold had an amazing memory for ancestry and genealogy—both that of his family and of others. He was known as the walking historian of Spring Hill, Tennessee. He was an active member of Mount Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He had a great sense of humor, always protected his family, and taught them what proper stewardship looks like. His wonderful example will never be forgotten, and his impressions on the hearts of his family and friends will always remain. He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, LaBetha, daughters Kathy Pewitt (John) of Thompson’s Station, Tennessee and Pebby McClain (Eddie) of Jacksonville, Florida as well as his grandchildren, Brant Pewitt (Anne), Bethany Pewitt Tucker, Allison McClain Merrill (Jack) and Katelyn McClain, and great-grandson, Logan Tucker. Harold is also survived by his sister, Amelia Dean of Columbia, Tennessee, along with treasured nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Lawrence Hill Parks, Charles Kenneth Parks and James Leslie Parks. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00am on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home, Reverend William (Bill) Rolman will officiate. Visitation will be held from 3:00pm-6:00pm on Sunday and one hour prior to the service Monday. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Brant Pewitt, Tracey Parks, Phil Love, Greg Conner, Cole Conner and Casey Creswell. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Mt. Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Ann Russell, Wanda Sawyer, Cynthia Lunn, Harry and Evaline Lunn, Morris Johnson and Sherry Conner. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. C. Houston Jamison and the staff of Maury Regional Cancer Center, Hospice Compassus and the Staff of the Reserve at Spring Hill. Memorials may be made to Mount Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 4497 Kedron Rd, Spring Hill, TN 37174. SPRING HILL MEMORIAL PARK AND FUNERAL HOME 931-486-0059 www.springhill-memorial.com
