Demetra "Jane" Voorlas

Reposed in the Lord December 14th 2020 at the age of 95, Demetra Jane Ellis Voorlas was Born in Oak Park Illinois to Peter and Helen Ellis of Greek decent. She was the second oldest of four sisters, Kay Passiales who has passed, Mary Kapolas and Addie Patsavas.

Demetra showed a talent for art at a young age and in her school years spent time at the Chicago art Institute taking classes. She graduated from Rosary College in Oak Park focusing on English and the arts and became a prolific painter in watercolor and oil and excelled in jewelry making.
She married Gust Harry Voorlas mechanical engineer, from Racine, September 9th 1948, he has also reposed.

Demetra was a groundbreaker for women, becoming a successful professional woman in the 1960's, as a top interior decorator for Porter's in Racine, decorating some of the most prestigious homes in the area. She was also a great restaurateur, establishing the very successful " Bill of Fare Restaurant" in Kenosha. She was a kind sharing boss with many loyal employees who loved her. She was a lifelong active member in the Racine Junior League, an avid Country Club tennis player winning many trophies, a duplicate bridge player, a constant gardener and as a gifted cook specializing in Greek dishes; she gave many cooking classes at her beloved Church Kimissis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church in Racine.
Always impeccably styled, her laugh and sense of humor were enchanting. She was Blessed with many lifelong friends, a generous heart and giving spirit and loved her doggies, Romy, Carmel and Pandy.
Highly spirited, she was known to say "no guts, no glory", she knew how to throw a super party and loved to travel!

Surviving;
Son Peter Gust Voorlas, Carthage College graduate, retired USMC bronze star recipient, combat veteran of the Vietnam war, who helps other veterans. He has a daughter Stephanie and grandson Hudson.

Daughter Lynn Connie Voorlas Bayers, internationally known as Lane Brody "The Yellow Rose", Oscar, Grammy and Emmy nominated recording artist, songwriter, actress with many accolades including a star in the Country music Hall of Fame, she is married to Legendary drummer Edward Howard Bayers Jr, they reside in Nashville Tennessee.

Nieces, Nephews and many, many friends.

She will live forever in the hearts of all who love her. In her later years she resided in Nashville with her daughter and is laid to rest there.
