Agnes Margretta Simpson, affectionately known to all as “Midge,” was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025. Born on February 25, 1937, in Portrush, Ireland, Midge moved with her family to the Hudson Valley of New York when she was 14 years old. New York is where she raised a family of her own and, as a mother of three children, earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Vassar College. She later received a Master of Arts from Stetson University in Deland, Florida, and was proud of her teaching career. Midge lived a life full of love and devotion to her family and friends. She was a proud member of the Brentwood United Methodist Church, where she found great joy in her faith and cherished time spent with her church community. She actively participated in her Sunday School Class, called “ACTS 2:42,” and drew strength and inspiration from her Christian faith. Midge's passion for life was evident in her artistic endeavors and admiration for literature; she loved painting and writing poetry, both of which were reflected in the annual Christmas card she created for loved ones. She also thoroughly enjoyed playing a variety of card and word games with anyone who was up for the challenge. Midge leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory in their hearts. She is survived by her three children and their families: daughter Cindy (Tim) Hayes; son Steve (Michele) Simpson; and daughter Linda (Chris) Jones. Midge was also immensely proud of her 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy throughout her life. She is also survived by her sister, Mamie Arvanitis, and brother, Sam (Tilly) Hamill. She will also be missed deeply by her dear friend, Patti Collins, and Midge’s cherished dog, Leo. Midge is preceded in death by her brothers, Roy Hamill and Gerald Hamill, and her sister, Foy Keeley. All of these loved ones are forever part of Midge’s legacy that she so beautifully articulated in her memoirs. A family graveside service to honor Agnes Margretta “Midge” Simpson will be held on March 19, 2025, at Williamson Memorial Gardens in Franklin, TN. At a later date, family and friends will be invited to a Celebration of Life for this remarkable woman who touched so many lives with her kindness, warmth, and unwavering faith.
