Barbara Martin

January 31, 1925 — April 8, 2014

Barbara Brownell Martin, 89, of Brentwood, Tennessee, passed away on April 8, 2014 in Somerfield Health Center at the Heritage at Brentwood following a lengthy illness. She was born to the late Hugh N. and Flora Akin Brownell, January 31, 1925 in Du Bois, Pennsylvania. She moved to Brentwood, TN in 2007 to be near her family. Mrs. Martin was pre-deceased by her late husband, Colonel James Edwin Martin, a retired Periodontist in the United States Army. They lived in many different places, both overseas and in the U.S. She dedicated her life to being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Martin was an active member of the P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization), the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and the Colonial Dames. A viewing will be held for family at 12:00pm, April 12, at the Lohman Funeral Home in Deland, Florida. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00pm, April 12, at Oakdale Cemetery of Deland, Florida. Surviving are her son, Bryan Thomas Martin and his wife, Christa, of Thompsons Station, TN; daughter, Clara Mae Martin of Fayetteville, GA; grandson, Christopher James Martin of Thompsons Station, TN; sister Daphne May Brownell of Rock Hall, MD; and her nephew Richard Stanton Brownell and his wife, Sandra, of Rock Hall, MD. The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the caring staff of Somerfield Health Center and the Heritage at Brentwood.
