BARTLETT, Calvin Clayton (87years old) born Oct. 26, 1924 of Thompson's Station, TN, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 3, 2012. He died of a sudden heart attack and leaves behind loving daughters, Debby Childs (Ralph), Pam O'Donnell (James) and son Randall Stulce (Kathy). In addition, seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild survive him. Wives, Faye and Mary Francis preceded him in death. Born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, he was the sixteenth child of Clee and Nellie Bartlett. His mother died in childbirth and his father died in February, 1949. Calvin enlisted at age 17 in the Marine Corps after the attack on Pearl Harbor and he served 37 months in combat in the South Pacific. As part of the First Marine Division, he fought in seven major battles receiving battle ribbons and Presidential citations for engagements including Guadalcanal and the bloodiest battle of the War, The Battle of Peleliu. He survived the sinking of his troop transport ship, sunk by a suicide enemy plane. Although later rescued from the sea by a U.S. Naval destroyer, he was reported as Missing-In-Action for over two months. He was able to rejoin his Division for another island invasion and unexpectedly met up on the beach with his older brother Art, who also served with the First Marine Division. Calvin had three brothers who also served in the armed forces during WWII. After the war, Calvin used the GI Bill to train as an electrician and was retired from General Motors in Norwood, OH. Calvin was a deacon at the Ludlow Christian Church in Ludlow, Kentucky. After raising his family in Kentucky, he moved to Thompson's Station, Tennessee to live near his two loving daughters and their families. Calvin was devoted to his loving family. He will enjoy eternity with his Lord Jesus Christ. Funeral services held 6:00PM Monday, August 6, 2012 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Ken Morris and Ed Alexander officiating. Chapel service and interment 2:00PM Est. Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Highland Cemetery, 2167 Dixie Hwy. Ft. Mitchell, KY. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
