Carlys Peak Scates, 87, of Martin, TN, left this earth and went home to his Heavenly Father on 11/19/2022. He lived in Franklin, TN.

Carlys came into this world on September 19, 1935 as one of twin sons born to Byron Ellis Scates and Eunia Ann Adams Scates. He went to school at Martin Senior High School where he played football and basketball. He married the love of his life, Doris Beauton Summers, on June 3,1956 at the First Baptist Church in Martin, TN. They would spend the next 66 years building an amazing life together. He graduated from the University of Tennessee – Martin with a BS in Mathematics and Science. He went on to graduate from Southern Theological Seminary with a Bachelors in Church Music and a Masters in Church Music. He served as Minister of Music and Youth in four churches including; West Broadway Baptist Church in Louisville, KY; Miami Shores Baptist Church in Miami, FL; First Baptist Church in Jackson, TN; and First Baptist Church in Brandon, FL. He also served as a volunteer in several other churches. His ministry spanned over six decades and touched countless lives. He was devoted to building others up and teaching people how to serve God through music. He inspired dozens of people to commit their lives to full-time Christian ministry, missions, music, and church leadership. He was active in music education for all ages and published multiple songs for children and teenage choirs. He was an athlete, avid fisherman, and frequent golfer. He loved working out and was known for his daily treks through the halls of Somerby of Franklin where he lived with Dottie. He loved his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He was a leader, a mentor, a role model, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Carlys is preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Eunia Scates.

Carlys is survived by his wife, Dottie Scates; his children, Craig and Susan Scates and Dawn and Jason Bradley; his siblings Harlys and Frances Scates and Jerry and Jacki Scates; and his grandchildren, John Hayne Scates, Travis Mason Scates, Thomas Peak Scates, Kylie Elise Bradley, and Koda Peak Bradley.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 1:00pm on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin, TN with Pastor Ken Hartley officiating. There will be a Visitation at 12:00pm immediately preceding the Celebration of Life.
