Charles Bellinger

September 8, 1960 — October 27, 2016

Mark Bellinger was a fixture on televisions across Middle Tennessee for more than 20 years. But the title of Reporter was not the most important one he held. His favorite titles were Husband and Dad.
Mark was born in Denver, Colorado on September 8, 1960, the son of Larry and Maureen Bellinger. He was blessed with two wonderful parents and siblings he adored - a brother, Stephen Bellinger, and a sister, Suzanne Gardoz. After being raised in a happy home, Mark built a loving family of his own. He adored his daughter Anna, and his wife Cindy, who was his partner and caretaker, in sickness and in health.
Mark died on October 27, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was just 56 years old.
Mark first came to NewsChannel 5 from KHQ-TV in Spokane, Washington where he covered the North Idaho beat. He began his career at KIDK-TV in Idaho after graduating from the University of Colorado Boulder.
Early in his days in Nashville, his NewsChannel 5 friends gave him a nickname, in part because there were three other people named Mark working in the newsroom. He became "The B." That moniker has endured for more than two decades. The B was never afraid to ask the tough questions. At the same time, his honest and direct manner helped him build remarkable relationships with nearly everyone - from police officers to politicians to the ordinary people he met while covering the news. He was beloved by his coworkers, and was extremely proud to be a part of the NewsChannel 5 family. It is impossible to count the number of stories he told or the number of lives he touched in the last 23 years.
Mark loved the Titans and the Broncos, loved wearing cowboy boots to work, and loved telling great stories. That includes the story of how he boldly approached a stranger and asked for an introduction to Cindy, who was working as a waitress at a local restaurant. Their happy marriage of 16 years was one of the two greatest pleasures in Mark's world. The other was the 7 years of life he shared with Anna.
Now that the cancer is gone and Mark is finally free of pain, he is no doubt celebrating in heaven with his mom Maureen, his dog Manhattan, and his long-time neighbor on reporter row, Dana Kaye.
