Charles Ross

Mr. Charles "Charlie" Edward Ross, age 91, of Cookeville TN passed away February 25, 2016. Born October 19, 1924, he was the son of the late John D. Ross and Della Futrell Ross, and loving step-mother Thelma Ross. At age 18, after graduating high school, Charlie enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served his country honorably and proudly in the Pacific Theater until his discharge in 1946. In 1950 he married Constance Pratt Ross, and they were inseparably devoted to each other for 65 years until her death last year. In 1948, Charlie began a long career with the United States Army Corps of Engineers which he enjoyed until his retirement. Charlie loved his family, his cabin in the Smokey Mountains, and a good practical joke. He also enjoyed traveling in the sunshine and his barbecue skills were legendary. Charlie was a member of Algood United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by daughter, Wanda Claire Ross Bennett; brothers, Davis Ross and Joe Ross. Charlie is survived by his son, Charles Edward Ross, Jr., (Judy); sisters Mildred Ross Roberts and Amanda Ross King; grandchildren Andrea Andrews Kline, Matthew Ross, and Klar (Jim) Sullivan; great grandchildren, Catherine, Sarah Jane and Andrew Kline, and Khloe Sullivan. Pallbearers are Andrew Kline, Mitchell Ross, Stanley Ross, Perry Pratt, Jack Pratt, Jr., Bill Andrews, Edward Jones, James (Baby) Baker, and Jim Ferrell. A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Williamson Memorial Gardens, Pastor Pat Smith, officiating. Visitation will be 11-1:00 pm Saturday.
