Colonel Martin E. Pierce, of Spring Hill, TN was born on October 9, 1931. He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Jenny (Luczynski) Pierce of Williamstown, MA. Col. Pierce graduated from Drury High School in North Adams, MA in 1949. He also received a Bachelor of Science in Diesel Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1955, a Masters Degree in International Studies from the American University, and a Masters in Public Administration from Central Michigan University. Colonel Pierce served for over 30 years in the United States Army (active and reserve). During this time, he spent a year in language school in Monterey, CA; spoke fluent Vietnamese; was a part of the Foreign Area Specialist Program (FAST); as well as serving in Germany, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and numerous other countries in Asia. Colonel Pierce served three tours of duty during the Vietnam Conflict and was an integral part of the Phoenix Program. In addition to his career in the U.S. Army, Col. Pierce used his intelligence experience as a part of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and two other federal government agencies. In addition to years of service related to drug enforcement in the United States, he held several assignments in Asia after learning Chinese at the State Department Language School. He ultimately learned five languages during his experiences with the Army and Government Services before retiring in 1994. After retirement, he divided his time between Alpharetta, GA and Naples, FL before finally settling in Spring Hill, TN near his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and survived by his current wife, Patricia; his son, Matthew; his daughter-in-law, Laura; his grandchildren: Michael, Brian, and Danielle Pierce; his sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Paul Giamborino; and his nieces Judy Giamborino and Gail Phelps. Funeral Mass will be 11:30AM Monday, September 27, 2010 at St. Philip Catholic Church, celebrant Father Bala. Interment Spring Hill Memorial Park. Active pallbearers loving family and friends and Steve and Paul Perreault. Honorary pallbearers Gordon and Alan Neville. Visitation one hour prior to service at the church.
