Daniel “Dan” Richard Plattsmier, Sr, of Franklin, Tennessee passed away Friday, October 25th, 2024, peacefully at home at the age of 95. He was a native of Rayne, Louisiana, but moved his family to Nashville in 1963. He was the youngest of six sons of the late George Plattsmier and Fabiola Chappuis Plattsmier. Dan is preceded in death by Elizabeth Burke Plattsmier, his extraordinary wife of 72 years, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis and Erma, Tony and Gloria, Bennett and Millie, Rodney and Dot, and Allen.
He is survived by his children Danny Plattsmier, Jr (Debbie), Donna Vaughan (Craig); Sister-In-Law, Gloria Plattsmier, Grandchildren Dallas Plattsmier (Debbie), Dianna Betts (Steve), Brandy Thompson (Kyle), Rebecca Ballou (Jason), and Andrew Perry (Ginger), Ben, Beau, and Branden Vaughan; Nine great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and many much-loved nieces and nephews.
Dan was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and a graduate of Gupton Jones Mortuary College in Nashville, where he would meet his future wife and eventually settle and raise his family. He retired from Nashville Rubber & Gasket where he worked as an Industrial Sales Manager.
Dan was a member of the Lions Club, Elks Lodge #72, and Saint Philip Catholic Church, which was walking distance from his home in Historic Downtown Franklin. He was active in the Franklin Downtown Neighborhood Association, was famous for the shrimp boils he often prepared for the community and was an avid fan of LSU Football. Dan was dearly loved by his family and entertained everyone he knew with his quick wit and sharp sense of humor.
To the special friends and family of Dan and Liz, thank you for the visits, phone calls, cards, birthday parties, prayers, love, laughter, and joy you brought to their lives.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Maristone of Franklin, BlueSky, Fox Physical Therapy, and Accent Hospice/Wound Care for the care they provided in recent years.
Services will be held at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, 11/1 at 2:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at Nolensville Cemetery. Visitation starts at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, we are asking that donations be made to Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, Inc or to your favorite charity.
