Dr. Atkinson

Dr. Donald Allen Atkinson, age 78 of Franklin, TN, December 5, 2013. He married Diann on September 2, 1956. They shared 57 wonderful, happy, years together. Don began preaching when he was 16 years old. He pastored several churches in Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia, and Tennessee including a 10 year term as Pastor of Walker Baptist Church, in Franklin, Tennessee. Don and Diann moved to Franklin, TN in 1984. Don served at Lifeway Christian Resources from 1983-2001. At the time of his retirement, he was both an Editor of Adult Decipleship and Family. He then served as Pastor of Walker Baptist Church in Franklin, TN for ten years and helped to start Oak Valley Baptist Church. Don wrote 2 books, one of which was "A Barnabas Lifestyle," and a second book called "Celebrating Life". He graduated from Athens University in Athens, Alabama and then from Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He received his Doctorate of Theology at New Orleans Baptist Seminary. For the past 7 years, Don has been a Professor at Williamson Christian College, teaching Theology. Don was a beloved Husband, Father, Friend, Counselor, Teacher, Pastor, and above all Man of God. He will be forever cherished and remembered for his blessings to all the people he touched with his gentleness and kind sprit. Survived by: wife, Diann Atkinson of Franklin, TN; sons, Michael (Carla) Atkinson of Franklin, TN & Greg (Tami) Atkinson of Macon, GA; brother, Robert Atkinson of Florence, AL; sister, Dorothy (Butch) Morrison of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Taylor, Samantha, Carter, Cody, Grace & Tia Atkinson. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Dr. Rick White, Mic Morrow, Bill Carmichael & Mitchell Karnes officiating. Interment Williamson Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Danny Dickens, Danny Dickens Jr., Don William, Straughn Bryant, Christopher Bryant, Bob Butts, Ed Madden. Honorary pallbearers will be Mic Morrow, Bill Carmichael & members of Walker Baptist Church.
