GRIFFITH, Dr. Benard O., 78, passed away at 12:30 a.m., January 6, 2010 at his residence in Franklin following a series of strokes. At all times, he was surrounded and comforted by family and friends. Born March 3, 1931 in Enigma, Georgia, he was the son of J.R. Griffith and Bessie Dorminy Griffith. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Abigail Griffith, son, Charles Benard Griffith, and granddaughter, Jacqueline Taylor Barnhill. Dr. Griffith was a graduate of the University of Georgia and the UGA College of Veterinarian Medicine and practiced in Nashville for over thirty years first with his brother, Dr. Leland Griffith, then at Hillsboro Animal Hospital, which he founded. Dr. Griffith established the Bulldog Club of Middle Tennessee and served as Vice President of the UGA Alumni Society from 1981-82. An avid bird hunter and outdoorsman, Dr. Griffith founded the Volunteer State Field Trial Club Association and was the proud owner of champion pointer, Harpeth Valley Hawk. He was an active member and volunteer in numerous veterinarian groups and research associations in Middle Tennessee. In 1978, Dr. Griffith restored and revived the antebellum Perkins home, Two Rivers, and resided there for over thirty years. Graveside services will be held at Two Rivers at 3104 Del Rio Pike, Franklin, TN on Sunday, January 10 at 1:00 p.m. Family will receive friends from 2-4PM Sunday at Two Rivers.
