PORTER, Dr. Lee, age 83 of Franklin, TN, May 17, 2012. Born in Mexico, Missouri. Received his B.A. in 1953 from William Jewell College, Liberty, MO, B.D. in 1956 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, TX & Th.D. in 1965 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, TX. He & his wife, Pat Long married in 1956. His pastoring experience included, 1953-56, First Director of Recreation, Glorieta Baptist Assembly, Glorieta, NM; 1956-59, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Glen Rose, TX; 1959-60, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Casa Grande, AZ; 1960-64, Pastor of Winbourne Avenue Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, LA; 1964-72, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Bellaire, Bellaire, TX; 1972-75, Director of Organization, Christian Life Commission, Southern Baptist Convention; 1979-91, Design Editor, Life and Work Curriculum Section, Sunday School Department, Lifeway Christian Resources with Southern Baptist Convention; 1978-1992, Southern Baptist Convention Officer, Registration Secretary; 1992-95, Assistant Pastor of St. Andrew Baptist Church, Panama City, FL; 1995-97, Assistant to the Dean, Mercer University School of Theology, Atlanta, GA. Other positions while in Nashville included, Correspondence Instructor, Seminary Extension, Doctrinal Reader and pastored Bell Road Baptist Church, Nashville, TN. Dr. Porter was active in several organizations including, Executive Board, Baptist General Convention of Texas; Grand Canyon Baptist College, Trustee; New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Trustee; Louisiana State Legislature, Chaplain; Southern Baptist Convention, Second Vice President; 1968-69, Southern Baptist Convention, First Vice President; 1969-70, Parliamentarian, Southern Baptist Convention; 1970-75. He was honored to receive his D.D. in 1970 from William Jewell College, Liberty, MO and was keynote speaker at Glorieta and Ridgecrest prior to going to Nashville. In addition to his pastoring, he was a sports official in the Nashville community. He was a member of West Franklin Baptist Church. Survived by: loving wife of 56 years, Pat Long Porter; sons, Lee (Drew) Porter, II and Lane (Vicki) Porter; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Memorial services will be conducted 1:00 PM, Monday May 21, 2012 with visitation starting at 11:30 AM at West Franklin Baptist Church, Rev. Doug Plumlee officiating. All ordained ministers will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Disease Research.
