Betty Morel was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Holmes Morel, Sr. She is survived by her children, Brenda (Anthony) Resha, H. (Patty) Holmes Morel Jr., Betty (Robert) Burchett, Leigh (Peter) Zimmerman and McNairy (Erin) Morel. Her grandchildren, Catherine (Lincoln) Lakoff and Paige Resha. Bill (Malia) and John (Alana) Morel and Anne (David) Thompson. Robert Burchett, Jr. and Bracey (Phil) Thomas. Sarah (Zach) Jordan, Deirdre and Katie Zimmerman and Laura, Lynde, Landon, Liam, Luke, Lizbeth and Lachlyn Morel. Her great grandchildren, Madeline and Logan Lakoff, Lincoln and Susan Lakoff, Holmes and Molly Jane Morel and Evelyn Morel and Ellie and Charlotte Thomas.
Betty was born in Paducah, Kentucky and moved to Nashville in 1937. She graduated Stokes Elementary, Peabody Demonstration School and Ward Belmont. It was in Brentwood, she married her husband in 1951. A charter member of the Traveler's Rest DAR, member and officer of the Magna Charta Dames and Barons, and The Virginia Association. A member of the Colonial Dames Chapter VII, Crocket Forge Chapter of 1812, and the Daughters of the American Colonists. Betty was a contributor to the Ladies Hermitage Association, and Belmont Mansion. She was a member of the Thompson Station Baptist Church Sunday School class and the Lawrence Grove Baptist Church.
She instilled in her children the importance of family. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren most of all. She was caring, giving and enriched the lives of those around her. She loved her animals, playing cards, gardening, and sewing. She was known for her warm smile and hugs. A highlight was cooking for her children's sports teams. She will be missed but for those who knew her, her values and love will be reflected in their lives and hearts forever.
Tracy (Robert) Poynor , children Will and Haley Poynor, was like a daughter, and she wished to thank her for her love and support throughout the years. A special thank you for her caregivers, Claudia, Carolyn, Charlene and Lyn, who gave so much.
Visitation will be held at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin, TN from 4-7PM on Sunday, March 13, 2016. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date.
