Ernest Howell

Mr. Ernest E. "Ernie" Howell, age 88 of Franklin, TN passed away November 18, 2014. Born December 27, 1925 in Auburn, KY to the late Ernest R. and Etta Mae Howell. He graduated from Isaac Litton High School in 1944. After high school he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and trained as a B17 crewman. After the war he graduated from Tennessee Polytechnic University now known as Tennessee Tech with a Bachelor's degree in Business Finance and Accounting. Ernie played trombone in a popular dance band. One of his bandmates introduced him to Irene Madewell, who he married on January 7, 1948. Ernie worked for International Harvestor before accepting a position with IBM. As his career advanced, he worked in many locations for IBM, notably Rochester, MN and Boca Raton, FL. He retired from IBM in 1989 with 38 years of service. In 2004 they moved to Franklin, TN to be closer to their daughter, son and five grandchildren. Ernie was active in the church and sang in the choir, he belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Shriner and was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Irene Howell; daughter, Terri (Craig) Nelson; son, Steve (Wendee) Howell; grandchildren, Chris Howell, Tyler Nelson, Stephanie Palmer, Kacey Howell, Alyssa Howell and many friends. Memorial services will be conducted 6:00PM Friday, November 21, 2014 with visitation two hours prior to the service at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Mike Smith officiating.
