Mrs. Evelyn Hatley Billings, age 94, passed away peacefully March 19, 2015. She was born November 6, 1920 in Vardamen, Mississippi to Ben E. and Martha Hatley. Her childhood years were spent in Southwest Missouri and Halls, TN. In her early teens she moved with her family to Memphis, TN where she attended Messick High School and married David Billings in 1942. While he served in World War II in the North African and European theaters, she busied herself by singing and playing guitar for the USO and on local radio stations as well as doing a comedy act imitating Minnie Pearl. After the war they lived in Memphis until 1992 when they moved to Franklin. In 2007 David predeceased her in death after 65 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Her lone surviving sibling is her brother, Ben E. Hatley of Rancho Cucamonga, CA. She is also survived by a son, Ron (Janice) Billings of Franklin as well as numerous nieces and nephews. For the last three years she resided at Southern Care Assisted Living in Franklin where the dedicated administrators, nurses and staff became her beloved second family. Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Monday, March 23, 2015 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home with visitation two hours prior to the service, Jim Taylor officiating. Byron Gonzalez will serve as a honorary pallbearer. Graveside services will be 1:00PM Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Memorial Park in Memphis, TN.
