George Dewey Thompson, Jr, 84, died Monday, June 26, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. Born November 10, 1932 in Williamsburg, Virginia. George was the oldest of ten children.
He was the son of the late George Dewey Thompson, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Cobb Thompson. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Betty Joyce Stripling Thompson and nephew, Harold Aadahl. He leaves his wife, Carlon Chapman Thompson; his son, David Thompson (Glendra); Duane Thompson (Sherry); Tim Thompson (Jennifer); 8 grandchildren John David (Lori), Tabiatha (Nate) King, Matthew (Keri), Tyler, Mallory, Micah, Tess (David) Singer and Brent and 11great grandchildren Eden, Ellie Gray, Emmeline Bea, Thompson (King), Peyton (King), Allie (King), Caroline (King), William (King), Carter, Tanner and Sage (Singer) and 9 siblings, Lucille Letchworth, Elizabeth Aadahl, Fannie Trull, Margaret Hill, John Thompson, Ella Mae Priester, Catherine Driscoll, Edward Thompson and Esther Rae Boatwright and a multitude of nephews and nieces.
George grew up on the farm learning the value of hard work. He served as a Sargent in the US Army 1954-1955 serving as an Army Helicopter Mechanic. He started working with Colonial Food Stores. He and his family moved to Franklin, Tennessee in 1973 with Sunflower Food Stores. Started a new chapter in his life at the age of 56 eventually becoming a partner in Johnson and Thompson Real Estate. He finished his career with Tim Thompson Premiere Realty until retiring his license in 2015.
He was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and member of Grassland Heights Baptist Church since moving to Tennessee. He and his wife, Betty, prepared Wednesday night supper at church for 35 years. He loved to serve his church. His family had an open door policy which included their children's families and friends. Sunday lunch was a special event at Granda and B's.

Arrangements are at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home with Visitation on Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 4pm to 8pm and Service will be Friday, June 30, 2017 at 2:00PM with visitation one hour prior to service at Grassland Heights Baptist Church in Franklin, Tennessee.
