Glenda Thompson

Glenda Ruth Jones Thompson (Shearouse), age 74, of Franklin, TN, formally of Pooler, GA passed away on May 11, 2018 following a long illness. Glenda was born in Savannah, GA on December 24, 1943.

She grew up on her family's farm in Pooler, Georgia and graduated from Groves High School in 1961. Following graduation she attended the Atlanta School of Art. Glenda had a knack for organization and held various positions requiring these skills. She was VP of the Chamber of Commerce in Walterboro, SC, while at the same time continuing her education through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Institute in Athens, GA. Glenda then relocated back to her hometown of Pooler to found the Westside Chamber in 1990. In addition to these two jobs and other responsibilities during these years, she helped pull together the first Rice Festival in Walterboro, SC, was the Publicity Director for the Walterboro Recreation Commission and a member of the Olympic-Tourism Advisory Council.

Glenda is survived by her daughter, Natalie Thompson Pearce, her son, Nathaniel Stroud Thompson Jr., her son-in-law, Robert Warren Pearce and three grandchildren: Taylor, Morgan, and Carson.
Glenda is preceded in death by her parents, Clinton Cedric Jones and Ruth (Stewart) (Jones) Cliatt of Pooler, GA, her sister Carol Elizabeth Jones of Sarasota, FL, her brothers Clinton C. Jones of Ashville, NC and Harrell E. Jones, of Franklinton, NC.

Glenda was a resilient person, she was loved and will be missed.
