Guilford Smith, Jr.

Mr. Guilford Eugene Smith, Jr., age 59 of Brentwood, TN passed away on September 5, 2014. A true patriot, he served America as a U.S. Marine and as a Tennessee State Highway Patrol Officer. Gil loved nature and the outdoor life, where he always found peace and love for his Lord. Being very health conscious he exercised regularly and was known as the "grillmaster" for his tasty BBQ ribs. He loved music and telling stories to all with an infectious laugh that drew everyone into his tale. Most of all, Gil loved his family with a kind spirit that will be missed by all. He is preceded in death by his parents, Guilford "Pete" Smith and Ruth Smith. He is survived by: wife, Mary Zon Smith of Brentwood, TN;
daughters, Kathryn (husband Jason) Hatmaker of Franklin, TN and Kristen Smith of Nashville, TN; son, Coleman Smith of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Jackson and Caroline Hatmaker of Franklin, TN; sister, Stephanie (husband Johnny) Mathis of Brentwood, TN and nieces, Meredith and Rachel Mathis of Brentwood, TN. A private family celebration was held in his honor in the beautiful countryside of Leipers Fork, a place he dearly loved. Memorials may be made to either the Ruth Smith Mission Fund at First Baptist Church of Ripley, TN or In Honor of Nell McKeel at First Baptist Church of Tiptonville, TN.
