Nashville native Harris Daniel Hatcher, Jr. passed away in Nashville from natural causes on April 3, 2021. He was 83 years old.
Harris was preceded in death by his parents Rubye and Harris Hatcher and his sister Helen Stratton. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Barrye; sons Harris (Kim), Keven (Laura), and Kyle (Becca); grandchildren Hunter, Caleigh, Knox, and Vaughn; brother Kenneth (Pat); and sister Kathy Zamata (Jim). The family appreciates the loving care provided to Harris over the past four years by Georgia Diggs.
Harris graduated from Cohn High School in Nashville in 1955; received his bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1959; and earned his master's degrees from Peabody College in 1961 and from the University of Illinois in 1964.
During his professional career, Harris first worked for the Tennessee State Planning Commission, then worked as a civil engineer for Barge, Waggoner, Sumner, and Cannon. He later became a financial planner and life insurance agent with New York Life Insurance where he worked for 30 years.
As a member of Belle Meade United Methodist Church for 50 years, Harris served as a Trustee, Finance Committee Chairman, and the Boy Scouts Coordinator for BSA Troop 87. Harris also was a member of the Downtown Nashville Kiwanis Club where he enjoyed ringing the Salvation Army bell to collect donations every Christmas.
In his free time, Harris loved playing golf, scouting with his boys, and traveling around the world. He especially enjoyed playing golf at St. Andrews in Scotland. He was a member of Temple Hills Golf Club for 35 years.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00AM Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Belle Meade United Methodist Church.
