Henry Martin Hartzog (Mark), Age 78, Born in Dothan, Alabama, passed away January 15th 2019. Mr. Hartzog is predeceased by his parents William Henry Hartzog and Julia Hightower Hartzog of Ozark, Alabama. He is survived by his wife Sylvia Plaxico Hartzog, daughter Julia Garcia (Roy), son Clay Hartzog, granddaughter Lindsey Beatty, and step-grandson Sebastian Garcia all of Nashville, sister Millie Smith (David) of Mobile, Alabama, brother Tim Hartzog (Pattie) of Roanoke, Virginia. Mark was the senior member of Hartzog & Silva, PLC in Franklin, Tennessee. He attended Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee and received his undergraduate degree from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He completed Marine Officers Candidate School and served in the United States Marine Corps attaining the rank of Captain. He was stationed in Vietnam during the period of 1965 to 1966. Thereafter, he graduated from University of Tennessee College of Law. Upon graduation, he relocated to Franklin, Tennessee and joined the firm of Dave Alexander. He served for 17 years as legal counsel for the Williamson County Board of Realtors. He was a former member of Heritage Federal Bank Board of Directors and Board of Director of Oak Hill School in Nashville. He was past president of Franklin Noon Rotary Club and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. He was a past chairman of the Diaconate at First Presbyterian Church (Nashville). He was a partner in Heritage Title & Escrow Company in Franklin. He and his wife served on parent/faculty committees for Middlebury College and Washington University in St. Louis. This journey with Mark began with a simple bouquet of yellow tulips. What followed was fifty years with adventures to Alaska, France, Italy and many other wonderful trips that Mark loved to plan. He had a best friend for half a century, two beautiful children, and an effervescent granddaughter who adored him. Mark was a wonderful husband and a loving, supportive father. His friendship was a gift to each person who knew him. He had a great passion for his work as an attorney and loved Franklin, Tennessee. Visitation will be Friday, January 18 from 3:00 PM-7:00 PM at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted 10:00 AM Saturday, January 19, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church, 101 Legends Club Lane, Franklin, TN 37069 with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Staff of Hartzog & Silva, PLC; Staff of Heritage Title & Escrow and the Williamson County Bar Association. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Habitat for Humanity, Friends of Radnor Lake, Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, First Presbyterian Church Franklin and First Presbyterian Church Nashville.
