Henry Sickels

Henry "Duke" Sickels, 85, of Goodlettsville, TN went to heaven on June 26th in Franklin, TN.

Duke was born in Detroit, MI on February 20th, 1935. His parents were Robert and Mildred Sickels. He graduated from Southern Nazarene University with a Bachelor's in Religion. He received a Master's in Counseling from North Texas State University and then went on to receive a Doctor of Chiropractic from Texas Chiropractic College. He worked as a teacher and high school counselor for 17 years and as a Chiropractor in private practice for 25 years. At the time of his death he was employed as a horticulturalist at Opryland Hotel. He was a veteran of the Korean War as an Operations & Intelligence Specialist serving in the Army and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He was involved in Goodlettsville Church of the Nazarene, Outward Bound Colorado, Outward Bound Tanzania, Goodlettsville Chamber of Commerce & Boy Scouts of America. Duke was an avid learner, backpacker, artist, woodworker, poet, and all-around renaissance man. He was a proud and loving father and grandfather and a faithful friend.

Duke is preceded in death by his father, Robert Sickels, mother, Mildred Sickels, and brother Terry Stechebar.

Duke is survived by brother Richard Sickels (Ronda), son John Sickels (Keri), son David Sickels (Georgia) & daughter Valerie Sickels. Grandchildren Lauren Lee (Chance), Joshua Sickels, Jordan Sickels (Mallory), Jonah Sickels, Jacob Sickels, Emma Royster, Hannah Royster, and Victoria Sickels. Great-Grandchildren Ember Lee and Grey Sickels.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, June 29th at Goodlettsville Nazarene Church with Rev. Philip Smith officiating. Private Military burial will be at Middle TN State Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements are by Williamson Memorial Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to Goodlettsville Church of the Nazarene (www.goodnaz.org) or The National Park Foundation (www.nationalparks.org).

The family of Duke wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Dr's and nurses of Skyline Medical Pulmonary Care Unit, Alive Hospice & the many friends who have cared for and supported the family during this time.
