Howard Southern

Howard Donald Southern, age 87, passed away on October 21, 2019, in Franklin, TN. Don was born and raised in Mulberry Gap, TN. His parents were William Hubert Southern and Leona Margaret (Hopkins) Southern. Don attended Hancock County High School in Sneedville, TN and UT in Knoxville. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and later worked as a jet engine mechanic at Delta Airlines from 1961 to 1993. Don was a member of Timberridge Presbyterian Church in McDonough, GA. He loved the Lord, his family, and the mountains of East Tennessee.

He is survived by sons, Brad Southern and wife Elisabeth of Franklin, TN; Boyd Southern and wife Jenny of Stockbridge, GA; grandchildren Anna Southern of Nashville, TN, Sarah Southern of Studio City, CA, and Katie Southern of Stockbridge, GA; sister Elizabeth (Doyle) Yeary of Ewing, VA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy (Drinnon) Southern, his parents, and brother, Joe Southern.

A service and interment will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday, October 28th, at the chapel of East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, October 28th, at Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel, 11915 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37934

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Don Southern to Timberridge Presbyterian Church, 2704 Conyers Rd, McDonough, GA 30252.
