Hoyt Buchannan Doak, Jr., age 92, of Franklin, TN, died July 29, 2014. Mr. Doak was born in Philipsburg, PA, on March 13, 1922, to Hoyt B. Doak and Emma Lee Grimes Doak. He was married for 37 years to Jean Burrow Doak, who preceded him in death in 1986. Hoyt Doak loved the game of golf, Middle Tennessee, ice cream, licorice, the Titans, dairy cattle, his family, and his church. He had a smile for everyone and never an ill word about anyone. He was a Southern gentleman who treated all people with respect, and expected the same from his family. Mr. Doak served as chairman of the Franklin School Board during the early 60's, and skillfully mediated the opposing interests of those challenging times, promoting harmony, and helping to lay a foundation for progress in local race relations. He was a member of the board of directors of Harpeth National Bank and First Tennessee Bank, Franklin. He was a deacon of Royal Heights Church of Christ, and later a member of Brentwood Church of Christ. Mr. Doak served in the Naval Air Corps in World War II, as a rear gunner on the TBM Avenger. He loved to share his vivid memories of his combat years, and took humble pride in being a member of the Greatest Generation. Also preceding Mr. Doak in death were his brother John H. Doak and his sister Dorothy D. Hahn. Mr. Doak is survived by his sons Hoyt B. Doak III and wife, Lucy Bratton Doak, and Kevin Burrow Doak. Also surviving Mr. Doak are his four grandchildren, Hoyt B. Doak, IV and wife, Josie Daniels Doak, John Bratton Doak, Evelyn Jean Lawrence Doak, and Kevin B. Doak, Jr., and his great-grandson, Hoyt B. Doak (Bo).
