VAUGHN, Mr. J Howard, a resident of Franklin, TN. Passed away peacefully on March 7, 2011. He was the only son of four children, born to the late J Walter and Floyce Vaughn of Bruceton, TN. Howard was the founder and President of Vaughn Contractors of Waverly, until his retirement at which time he became chairman of the company. He served on the board of directors for the Tennessee Road Builders Association receiving an award for outstanding contribution. He also received the DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD from the TRBA in recognition of over 50 years of excellence in leadership and devoted service as an example of others to follow in the industry. He was a member of First Brentwood Baptist Church. Everyone that knew Howard knew of his zest for life and knew of his great love for his work. He was highly respected and admired by his peers in the industry. Howard always gave God the credit for any and all accomplishments that he received in life. He loved his family and provided for them amply. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Susan Vaughn; two sons, Gary and Steve, both of Waverly; daughter, Bethany of Franklin; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Wright of Camden and Ina (Hollis) Billingsley of Waverly. He was a great uncle to Jakob, Cooper, and Liam Cockrum of Indiana, for whom he had a very special place in his heart. He also left behind a beloved and devoted bird dog, Houdini and his cat, Drifter. He was preceded in death by sister, Brooxie Greer of Texas. There was a private service held in the Baskin Chapel at Brentwood Baptist Church with Gayle Haywood, Senior Adult Minister officiated, with a private burial.
