James (Jim) O.F. Durham, age 92 of Brentwood, Tennessee passed away on March 15, 2019. Mr. Durham was born in Hendersonville, Tennessee to the late Elma Hale and William R.
Durham. He was among members of the first graduating class of Hendersonville High School
and was a member of the first Hendersonville High School football team. He served as a
Corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II and upon returning home began his studies at
George Peabody College. Shortly after his college career he married his high school
sweetheart, Mary Allen Hutchison, and then began his career with Genesco in downtown
Nashville in the Arcade with John Hardy Shoe Store. From Hardy's, he advanced over the
years to the real estate division where he retired after 40 years of service. During his career,
Mr. Durham was also a Mason with the Masonic Lodge giving of his free time to help others
and also became an active member in the Elks Lodge #131 of Brentwood. After moving to
Nashville, he and his family became members of the First Presbyterian Church of Nashville on
Franklin Road beginning in 1963 where he served as a deacon and greeter. Mr. Durham joined
Brentwood Country Club in 1966 where he was an avid golfer and remained a member until
2010.
Jim was never a sheriff, he portrays one at his assisted living home in a costume contest and he won. He was a great and understanding father.
Preceded in death by his wife, Mary Allen (Purn) Hutchison Durham; brother, Carl Durham and Earl Durham and sister, Junie Lee Scott. Survived by: son, James Derrick "Rick" (Kristin) Durham of Brentwood, TN; daughter, Denise (James) Morrisey; grandchildren, Matthew Morrissey, Jordon Morrissey and Myles Fox Morrissey all of Franklin, TN; brother, Donald (Anita) Durham of Goodlettsville, TN; sisters, Mary Jean Dorris of White House, TN, Virginia(Kenneth) Plumlee of Lakeland, FL and Jerald Ann (Bruce) Johnson of Franklin, TN and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5-7PM Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Pike, Nashville, TN. Graveside services will be conducted 10:00 AM March 20, 2019 at Old Beech Cemetery at Beech Presbyterian Church, 3216 Long Hollow Pike, Hendersonville, TN 37075, Rev. Sandra Randleman officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Anthony Durham, Ed Durham, Randy Durham, Bob Dorris, David Johnson, Daryl Hutchison and Tom Weatherford.
