PETWAY, James Garland was the son of Oliver Jordan Petway and Lena Brownie Green Petway and was born on April 6, 1924. He died January 22, 2014.
He is survived by Willodene Churchwell Petway, sister Sally Petway Stroud, daughter Penny Brooks, son-in-law Larry Brooks, daughter-in-law Terri Petway, six grandchildren Larry Brooks, Lucas Brooks, Lauren Brooks, Jake Petway, Cole Petway, Victoria Petway and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son James (Jim) Garland Petway Jr, sisters Marie Petway Moseley, Dorothy Petway Driscall and Jean Petway Burrow.
Mr. Petway attended Franklin Elementary and Battle Ground Academy. At 18, he was inducted into the Army and served in World War II. While serving, he traveled through France, Belgium, Austria, and Germany. He married Willodene Churchwell on November 28, 1946. He worked for the Veteran's Hospital and St Thomas Hospital in Nashville as an x-ray technician for 30 years. After retirement, he and his wife Willodene owned and managed rental houses in Franklin and enjoyed keeping and playing with their grandchildren.
Pall bearers for Mr. Petway's service will be Larry Brooks, Larry Brooks Jr., Lucas Brooks, Jake Petway, Cole Petway, Bobby Russell and Bobby Moseley.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Petway will be Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin, Tennessee at 2:00 pm with burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 noon until 2:00 pm.
