Jane Walker

January 12, 1945 — March 3, 2017

Jane Burgin Thomas Walker passed to another plane while holding hands with her husband in the early morning hours of March 3 after battling pancreatic cancer for 8 months. She was preceded in death by parents, John and Louise Thomas formerly of Columbia Tennessee and is survived by her husband Townsend Lee Walker, Jr.; daughter, Joanna Leigh Walker (Dustin Sullivan), delightful grand-daughter, Mira Leigh Sullivan, sister, Bethany Thomas Wilson (Ron), and niece and nephew Laura and John Henley.

Janie, Mom, M-Bear, was a member of the Vanderbilt University class of '67 and also attended Auburn and UAB. Her favorite subjects were American and English Literature and American History. Fittingly, she worked at Monticello in Williamsburg, VA, Joint Universities Library in Nashville and The Franklin Public Library. All were fortunate to have received her expertise. Her best work was done, however, when she forsook her bookish careers to become a full time homemaker and Mom for her daughter Joanna. Her favorite activity was accompanying Joanna to horse shows where she was always Joanna's most ardent fan and supporter.

Janie was also the Cat and Dog Mom par excellence for our numerous 4 legged creatures through the years, Oscar, a wee sized but extraordinary brave rescued Persian kitty will probably be the first to greet her on the other side. Husband Lee would like to think that he beat Oscar and TJ (Thomas Jefferson) for favoritism but in fact he will be uncommonly lucky to have slipped into a 3-way tie.

Time and place for a celebration will be announced soon. Be kind to those you care about. Please make a donation to the animal rescue or welfare organization of your choice.
