Janice Butcher Clapp - "Jan" to all who knew her - was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, April 24, 2019. Treasured daughter, sister, mother, and Grami, Jan was born in 1955, in Lake Forest, IL. Growing up in Nashua, NH, she loved spending time sewing, hiking, participating in Girl Scouts, and sailing.
Jan attended the University of Maine at Farmington, graduating with a degree in Home Economics. After college, she lived in Maine, married, and welcomed two daughters - Kristin and Holland. In 1988, by the grace of God, she survived brain surgery to remove a tumor. Her greatest joy was found in raising her girls, lovingly homeschooling them and encouraging their gifts. The family moved to Florida in 1992, where she lived until 2017.
While living in Florida, the state of Maine remained very dear to her heart, and she treasured opportunities to return to the family cottage on Bailey Island. Jan cared for her parents for many years and supported her daughters as they attended college and married. She cherished her five grandchildren - Emmanuelle, Sydney, Kiana, Kaiden, and Luke.
Jan was well known for her creativity, her mischievous spirit, and her love for the Lord. Since moving to Nashville in 2017, Jan had found a precious community of friends in her church, Parish Presbyterian, and delighted in studying God's word.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kristin and Paul Grenelle, and Holland and Alexander Valdez, five grandchildren, her siblings and their spouses, Robert Butcher Jr. (Caroline Nesbitt), Katharine Scribner (Kevin Scribner), and Linda Petersen (John Peterson), as well as 5 nephews, and a niece. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Nancy Butcher, and her husband.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 28, at 4 o'clock in the afternoon at Parish Presbyterian Church, 4150 Clovercroft Rd. Franklin, TN 37067. WILLIAMSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 615-794-2289. www.williamsonmemorial.com
