Jerry Ray Smith, born on October 28, 1944 to the late Carroll and Alberta Smith in Evansville, Indiana passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025 in Thompson's Station, Tennessee. Throughout his life, Jerry dedicated himself to public service notably as the Deputy Fire Marshall at North Naples Fire Department, for 23 years where he made significant contributions to the safety and well-being of his community in Naples, Florida. Jerry and his wife Nancy lived in Naples, Florida for 44 years before following the grandsons to Tennessee. His commitment to service extended beyond his civilian career; Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army as Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War as a leader, training troops, exemplifying courage and dedication. Jerry is the remembered fondly by his loving family. His heart and focus was always on the Lord and his family, leaving a legacy of faith and love. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Smith, his son Bradley Smith and daughter-in-love Laurie, his cherished grandchildren Matthew, Mitchell and granddaughter-in-love Bella, Mikey, Mason and Marshall. Preceded in death by his precious daughter Kimmy Smith whom he lovingly referred to as Punky Doodle. Each family member holds treasured memories of Jerry/Papaw that will forever live on in their hearts. From playing cards, building projects, taking adventures with his boys, watching football or just reading scripture while growing in the Lord. His journey on earth was marked by love, compassion and faith in God. A Memorial Service to honor Jerry Ray Smith's life will be held on March 2, 2025 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin, Tennessee. Visitation at 1pm and service at 2pm. The service will be live streamed starting at 1:55pm through the Williamson Funeral Home site.
