John G. Brewer, age 66, of Franklin, TN, passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, August 14, 2017.
John was born in Ducktown, TN on May 26, 1951 to Leroy and Irene Brewer. He graduated from Cleveland High School in 1969 and the University of Tennessee in 1973. He and his wife, Virginia (Ginny), have been married 43 years. They have two beautiful daughters and spent many happy years in Roswell, GA, Westlake Village, CA, Park City, UT and Washington D.C. before settling in Franklin, TN.
John was proud to end his career as the Deputy Chief Financial Officer to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Washington D.C. Previously, he was Vice President of Customer Operations for Promedix, Salt Lake City, UT; Vice President of Logistics at Safeskin, San Diego, CA; Manager of Supply Development & Procurement at Nestlé, Glendale, CA; and Director of Strategic Business Services at Kimberly-Clark, Roswell, GA. John began his career as a C.P.A. for Windham, Brannon, Cashin & Duval and Ernst & Whinney.
He retired the year prior to his passing and was overjoyed to spend the extra time playing with his three extraordinary grandchildren. He had a lifelong passion for golf and was a member of the Vanderbilt Legends Golf Club.
John G. Brewer served on the vestries and building committees of St. David's Episcopal Church in Roswell, GA and The Church of the Epiphany in Oak Park, CA. He aided both parishes in building new churches and his name is written on the cornerstone of each.
John is survived by his wife of 43 years, Virginia (Ginny) Brewer; his brother, James Brewer (Bonnie) of Lascassas, TN with several nieces and nephews; his daughters, Virginia (Ginny) Pennekamp (Kyle), Michelle Blackwelder (Brent); and his fabulous grandchildren, Juliette & Margot Blackwelder, and Findlay Pennekamp.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 510 W. Main St, Franklin, TN 37064. The Reverend W.R. "Rusty" McCown will be officiating. A reception will follow in the church's Otey Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in loving memory of John G. Brewer.
