Mr. John Kowalski, age 86 passed away after a brief, but heroic battle with cancer on Saturday, May 16, 2015. John was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania. After meeting his wife and traveling the world during his time in the military, he made Tennessee his home. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. John retired from the United States Air Force in July 1973. As a young man, he enlisted in the Army and later served 25 years in the Air Force. During those years of service, he served in the Korea and Vietnam conflicts. A patriotic and devoted family man who touched and inspired the lives of all his family members as well as many of those that he came in contact with, he will be missed by many. His hobbies included gardening, bird watching, walking with his friends daily at the mall, and which later in his life he greatly enjoyed, periodic trips to casinos with his family. Preceded in death by son, Michael John Kowalski; parents, Leon & Regina Hudecek Kowalski; brothers, Edward, Stanley & Frankie Kowalski; sisters, Helen Kowalski & Lucy Pedlic. Survived by: loving and devoted wife of nearly 62 years, Mildred Kowalski; children, Tony (Donna) Kowalski, Billy Kowalski, Danny (Jamie) Kowalski, Teddy (Linda) Kowalski, Monica (Tommy Hughes) Kowalski, Sandy (John Lilly) Kowalski, Terri (David) Watkins & Tammy (Jamie Jones) Carver; sister, Stella Slezak; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Wally Whidby officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Williamson Memorial Gardens.
