Kevin Trostel

September 17, 1984 — March 24, 2018

Kevin Trostel passed away March 24, 2018 in Franklin, Tennessee. He was the son of Debra Trostel of Franklin, TN and Michael Trostel of Hendersonville, NC. He was preceded in death by his uncle, Robby Busch, of West Union, SC with whom he was extremely close. He is survived by his grandparents Bob and Joann Busch of West Union, SC and Lowell, Betty Trostel of Troy, OH and his aunt Debra Dietrichson of Cincinnati, OH. Kevin was born in San Diego, California on September 17, 1984, but lived his entire life in Tennessee. He loved the home in which he grew up in Franklin, TN. Kevin had a wonderful childhood in the Green Valley neighborhood with many school mates who lived nearby. He was involved in soccer, baseball, boy scouts and played the drums. He graduated from Centennial High School in Franklin; attained his Bachelors of Science Degree from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro; ultimately achieving his Masters of Science Degree with a concentration in Plant Biology from Middle Tennessee State University. His goal was to attain his Doctorate of Science Degree. He had recently accepted a position to teach in Texas and was extremely excited about the new opportunity. While Kevin pursued his academic degrees and his teaching career, he lived near the campus in Murfreesboro and occasionally, in his childhood home with his mother, Debby. These two individuals were extremely close. They knew and understood each other. The two were the very best of friends. Kevin loved his mother's cooking! Even though Kevin was a Tennessee boy, he had a passion for South Carolina and owned property in Salem, SC for which he had many plans. Kevin was well known for caring for his mother and his beloved home in which he grew up, especially tending to her many plants, flowers and trees. Every year on Mother's Day he and his mother would plant the vegetable garden. He was a loyal friend and had a soft heart. He loved animals, especially his kitty, Gracie, and his mom's two dogs, Buster and Bella. Kevin had not yet found the right girl, but he kept looking and wanted a family of his own. Kevin instructed biology courses at Middle Tennessee State University and Nashville State Community College. His students found him engaging and always gave him high marks as an instructor as did his superiors. He was the recipient of many highly sought after endowments from Plant Societies. Kevin always gave back to his community by presenting educational engagements at garden clubs and also teaching biology to visually impaired and blind youngsters. Kevin spent many summers with his grandparents in SC with whom he had an extremely close relationship. He loved fishing in Bob's pond and helping him with the many projects Bob always had going on. He called his grandmother often and the two of them had long conversations just chatting away. Kevin will be missed tremendously by his family, many friends and co-workers. We cherished our time with him on earth and look forward to seeing him again. A memorial service for Kevin was held on April 19, 2018 at St. John's Lutheran Church where he had been baptized. Donations can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 301 West Main St. Walhalla, SC 20961
