Kimberly Lynn Jones passed Tuesday April 4th, 2017. The lifelong Brentwood resident was born November 18th, 1982 to Carol and Jim Jones. Kimmie, as she was most commonly known, lived with passion, unrivaled humor, and creativity that poured from her soul. She exemplified a spirit of strength paired with a wit and light that shined brighter than most.
As a proud graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, Kimmie used her education and experiences of living with muscular dystrophy while she worked for the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, advocating for others living and succeeding with disabilities. She also entertained readers with her popular blog, "That Girl in The Wheelchair", a little corner of the internet in which she enlightened her avid followers on topics ranging from pop culture to navigating the world from the perspective of a wheelchair while never being defined by disability.
Kimmie was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jim and Carol Jones; brother, Christopher Jones; grandparents John Allen and Willa Jones and Joan Tibbs
She is survived by her brother Michael Jones (Kristine) of Monrovia, CA, sister Kelly Gentry (Micah) of Chattanooga, TN , long time love Jamie Johnson of Nashville, TN, niece Elena, nephews Oliver and Holden, and countless friends, relatives and readers.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens and Museum. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made in honor of Kimmie to her favorite charity, The Alliance for Recreational Empowerment Summer Camp Program (www.campproject.org) which provides recreational and educational activities for people with physical and/or mental disabilities with the goal of empowering them to be active, engaged members of their communities.
