Lewis Irwin "Lew" Rashmir, age 93 of Brentwood, TN passed away February 13, 2019. He was born in Hamden, Connecticut and attended Hamden Hall Private School. Lew served in the U.S. 71st Army Division, 5th Infantry Regiment in Europe from 1942 to 1946. Graduated from Lehigh University in 1949 with an Industrial Engineering Degree. He founded MCRB along with his mother, Rose Rashmir in 1948, during which they were recognized by Newsweek for introducing Ms. into direct marketing purposes. After Dart, Ind. purchased MCRB in 1960's, Lewis stayed with them and built a computer factory for direct marketing in Tuam, Ireland. Lew developed the "Me Books" for children with Freeman Gosden. He was also instrumental in formulating the frequent flyer program. Lew was one of the first businessman to start an import business with China selling dinnerware and glassware after China opened for import business by President Nixon. He was a talented artist in addition to his business entrepreneurship. Preceded in death by son, Michael Joseph Rashmir; parents, Meyer & Rose Rashmir; brother, Mark Rashmir and his first wife, Virginia Zasinas Rashmir. Survived by: wife of 33+ years, Marilyn "Lynn" Rashmir of Brentwood, TN; daughter, Dr. Ann Rashmir of Michigan; daughter in law, Marissa Rashmir of California; sons, Steve (Monica) Cook and Michael (Elizabeth) Cook of Tennessee; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
