Lola Bowersox

Bowersox, Lola Frances Reed Glenn - Age 98 (born January 5, 1918) of the Bethesda community, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 24, 2016. Preceded in death by her parents Ruth Giles Reed and Charles Aaron Reed, Sr.; husband, Jackie Glenn; daughter, Janice Glenn Hall; and husband, Bill Bowersox; sisters, Glyndon McAfee & Alma Bowersox. She is survived by her beloved son, Calvin Glenn (Sandra) and her nephews & stepsons, Bill (Jan) & Bob Bowersox; her loving brothers Leon Reed (Katie) and Aaron Reed (Ann); grandchildren - Melissa Hall (Kevin Butts), Tony (Stephanie) Glenn, Jackie (Tammy) Glenn, Susan Glenn Jaworski, Sharon (Toby) Perez, Raechel Bowersox, Beth (Mike) Gall, and Abigail (Joel) Grant, Haden, Quinten, and Dalton (Chelsie) Bowersox; 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, 6 nephews, 5 nieces and a host of extended family. She was the Valedictorian of Bethesda School's Class of 1935 and played basketball and softball. She took college classes at the Peabody Teachers College and graduated from MTSU with her Bachelors and Masters degrees. As Mrs. Glenn, she taught 38 years beginning in a one room school house where she rode a horse to New Hope School in Fairview. She walked six miles round trip to teach eight grades at Choctaw School. She then taught in the two room Flat Creek Community School; followed by Bethesda School, before moving to Nashville to teach at Shwab & Crieve Hall Elementary schools. During the summers, she was a Park Attendant at Reservoir Park with the Nashville Metro. Parks & Recreation. In 2002, Mrs. Glenn was inducted into the State of TN Teachers Hall of Fame. Over the years, she was an active member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, and was active in the Bethesda-Wesley UMW, College Grove Garden Club, Home Demonstration Club, TN Retired Teachers Association, The Eastern Star, and volunteered at the Flat Creek Community Center and with the Williamson County Election Commission. Miss Lola was very giving and gave her time, money & talents to countless charities. She loved her family and friends, all children, animals, nature, travel, and the arts. Until her last days, she was an avid sports fan of football, baseball, and basketball. At her most recent home for almost 15 years, Legacy Crossing Assisted Living (now Brookdale), she was the longest living resident, where she participated in Bingo, crafts, music, and various activities and exercise classes. She was loved by all and will be remembered always for her beautiful smile, generous heart, gentle spirit, and sharp intellect. Pallbearers: Tony Glenn, Jackie Glenn, Toby Perez, Haden Bowersox, Quinten Bowersox and Dalton Bowersox. Honorary Pallbearers: Bethesda United Methodist Church members. The family would like to thank caregivers at Brookdale and Williamson Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be conducted 3:00PM Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Chris Eaves officiating. Visitation will be 4-8PM Tuesday and two hours prior to the service at Williamson Memorial. Burial will follow the service in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
