Margaret Nurre

Margaret Teresa Nurre of Franklin, TN passed away peacefully at home on 17 December 2017. Margaret was born in Lawrence, MA on 21 March 1921, the daughter of John A. O'Hearn, editor of the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune, and Louisa N. O'Hearn (nee Breen). Margaret attended high school in Lawrence, and graduated from Simmons College in 1941. Following her graduation, Margaret went to work in Washington, DC in the office of her congressman, Thomas J. Lane. In March 1943, Margaret enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served as a Lieutenant until January 1946. During her service, Margaret met Navy Lieutenant Thomas C. Nurre at a USO dance in Philadelphia, and the two were married on May 8, 1946. Margaret and Tom began their life together in Linwood, NJ, later moved to Downers Grove, IL and along the way raised six children, Tom Jr., John, Susan, Stephen, David and Robert. Once the youngest of the children was in school, Margaret began working in the local public school district library office and then later worked as an educator at the Morton Arboretum where Margaret's love of nature was given full expression. After Tom's retirement, Margaret and Tom moved to Wisconsin Rapids, WI and then later moved to Franklin, TN to live with their daughter Susan and her family. Tom passed away in 2012. Margaret is survived by her six children, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Margaret enjoyed taking many nature and art classes at The Clearing Folk School in Door County, Wisconsin. A memorial service will be held on January 5th at 10 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Lawrence, MA.
