Martha Lawrence

October 28, 1923 — February 13, 2018

Martha Vaden West Lawrence, age 94 of Franklin, TN died February 13, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis West and Else Vaden West, husband, Stephen S. Lawrence and son, Stephen A. Lawrence. Survived by sister, Sara Robertson, daughter Cathy (Richard) Warren, grandchildren, John (Ginny) Warren, Stephen (Martha Smith) Warren and Rachel (Straley) Holton and great grandchildren, Knox Holton, Jennings Holton and Mia Warren. Mrs. Lawrence was born on October 28, 1923 in the Clovercroft community in Williamson County and received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Vanderbilt University in 1948. She was a member of AOPi sorority and Phi Beta Kappa. She worked many years at the United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry, starting as a secretary and retiring in 1988 as the Board's Chief administrative officer. She was a member of First Franklin United Methodist Church for fifty years and was a member of the Horace Edgmon Sunday School class. She greatly enjoyed her bridge club and was active in the community, serving on the board and as Treasurer of the Carnton Association. The family would like to express its appreciation to Juanita Anderson and her family for the loving care they provided to Mrs. Lawrence. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Historic Sanctuary of First Franklin United Methodist Church, 148 Fifth Avenue South, Franklin, TN with visitation from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Franklin United Methodist Church, 120 Aldersgate Way, Franklin, TN 37064.
