Martha Strickland

Martha Belle Hamblen Strickland, age 100, Franklin, TN passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Grace Healthcare of Franklin, TN. Martha Belle was born on December 14, 1913 in Nashville, TN. She is preceded in death by her parents William Henry Hamblen, Rena Belle Thomas Hamblen, her husband, Emmett T. Strickland, and grandson Skyler Dean Skelley. Survivors include daughter Linda Sue Conrad, son-in-law Thomas W. Conrad, son John W. Strickland, daughter in-law Judy Carre Strickland, grandchildren, James Stephen Daves (Jennifer Chichester), and Laura Elizabeth Strickland. After graduating from Central High School in Nashville, Martha Belle went to Tennessee Tech where she met Emmett. She taught 4th grade for two years. She and Emmett were married at McKendre Methodist on December 28, 1936. West High School, Camp Hy Lake, and Waverly Belmont were a big part of their life until 1960 when Emmett became Superintendent of Schools of the Franklin Special School District. Martha Belle was a member of the Daily Thompson Sunday School Class at the First Methodist Church. She helped with "Meals on Wheels" and met with her church circle. She was a member of the Franklin Home Demonstration Club and the Franklin Garden Lover's Club. She loved to paint and had several showings of her pairings in the Franklin area. Christmas 2011, Martha Belle was the Senior Christmas Queen for the Christmas parade. The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Williamson Memorial from 4-7PM. Services performed by Jim Taylor will be at 11:00AM on Monday, December 15, 2014 at Williamson Memorial.
