Mary Ann Gray Tate born August 30th, 1941. She passed away peacefully after a short illness with family at her side. Parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Warren P. Gray. Granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gray Sr. of Franklin, Tennessee (Gray Drug Company of Franklin, Tennessee). Granddaughter of Rebecca Thompson.
Mary Ann grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and went to school at Parmer School, Julia Green, and Harpeth Hall and attended George Peobody College for teachers. Survived by her sister, Phyllis Gray Gilmore of North Carolina, her daughter Nancy (DeeDee) Tate Bumpous. She is also survived by Grandsons William Gray Bumpous (Candy) and Robert (Bobby) McKeever Bumpous, and Granddaughter Jennifer Sallee Taylor (Ryan), and three great granddaughters Adylie Hall, Brooklynn Bumpous, and Harper Taylor.
After several residences in Nashville, she moved to Franklin to make her forever home and be involved in community activities and Historic First Presbyterian Church. Mary Ann grew up in Westminister Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, basketball coach, helped with Room in the Inn, and preparing and giving food to church members.
Mary Ann was a well-known Caterist who had her own business in Nashville, TN. She loved cooking and preparing gourmet and southern dishes for private gatherings and parties in people’s homes. She gave every gathering she did a special touch including naming dishes after them. Large occasions were her specialty and love. Mary Ann also worked in the purchasing department at Third National Bank in downtown Nashville for several years. Mary Ann Gray Tate is loved and will be missed by many.
A funeral service will be held at 2PM Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Historic First Presbyterian Church with Sally Hughes officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service with a reception to follow the service. A graveside service will take place at 3PM Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
