With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Matthew “Matt” Lega, who left this world on February 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Matt’s strength, kindness, and unwavering spirit touched everyone who knew him.
Born on October 8, 1975, Matt’s life was filled with passion and creativity. His love for music was unmatched—his vast collection of CDs was a reflection of his deep appreciation for melody and meaning. Music wasn’t just something he enjoyed; it was a part of who he was, a constant companion through every stage of life. He was also a dedicated fan of his hometown teams, especially the Green Bay Packers, cheering them on through every season.
Beyond his love for music and sports, Matt was a gifted writer with a talent for storytelling. His creativity knew no bounds—he authored two plays, as well as numerous short stories and novels. Writing was his way of capturing the world as he saw it, weaving humor, emotion, and insight into everything he created. His words, much like his presence, left a lasting impact on those lucky enough to experience them.
More than anything, Matt was a person who built meaningful connections with everyone he met. Whether family, friends, or even passing acquaintances, he had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and supported. His nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart, and he cherished every opportunity to be a part of their lives, whether sharing music, offering guidance, or simply making them laugh. His kindness extended beyond his family—Matt was a loyal friend, a source of strength and humor, and someone who always put others before himself. Even in the face of his toughest battles, he continued to inspire those around him with his resilience and warmth.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debra Molski; his devoted mother, Joy Weber, and stepfather, Tom Weber; his siblings, Melanie (Garrett) Meyer, Amanda (Joseph) Yingling, and Joshua Lega; and his beloved nieces and nephews, who brought him endless joy. He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Lega, and is now reunited with him.
Matt’s journey was one of love, music, creativity, and quiet strength. His memory will live on in every song played, in the laughter of his nieces and nephews, in the stories he shared, and in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.
A celebration of Matt’s life will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025, at The Park of Harlinsdale Farms, North Entrance @ The Hayes House. 239 Franklin Rd, Franklin, TN 4-6pm.
To honor Matt’s legacy, please direct any donations to the family to help reduce funeral costs, rather than sending flower.
Rest easy, Matt. May your next adventure be filled with beautiful music, unforgettable stories, and the warmth of those who love you.
