Melvin Roger Hayes born 10/1/43 (75) passed away peacefully February 8th, 2019 with his family by his side. Born and raised in Danvers, IL Roger had fond memories of his friends and family from his childhood and was always ready to share a Danvers story. He graduated from Illinois Wesleyan in 1965 where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta, followed by service in the U.S. Navy, followed by work at Ford Motor Company in Omaha, NE. Roger and family then moved to Brentwood, TN where he was employed by Atlantic Envelope Company and Pinnacle Business Partners for a combined 30 years. Roger was enjoying a relaxing retirement working in his yard and garden. He always had time for his family who affectionately called him Papa. Preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Marilyn Hayes and sister in law Rachel Bunting (David), he is survived by his wife Susan Laubaugh Hayes, two daughters, Natalie Norris Torbett and Heather Norris Bracey, Matthew Moak (Shelley) of St. Louis, sisters Mareta Walker of Lubbock, TX and Holly Parsons (Percy) of Abilene, TX, sister in law Rebecca Greene (Ken) of Durand, IL, 6 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter and a host of nieces and nephews. A celebration of Roger's life will be determined at a later date. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or TN Baptist Children's Home in his honor.
