Milton Hight

September 21, 1927 — August 25, 2010

HIGHT, Mr. Milton A. "Mike", age 82 of Franklin, August 24, 2010, after an extended struggle with COPD. Mike Hight was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and surrogate father to many, a hilarious character, and beloved friend. Born in Franklinton, NC. Proud Disabled Veteran of the U.S. Navy (1944-1951), serving as an HM3 Corpsman in both World War II and Korea. He served on the USS Little Rock and USS Palau. He was retired from various music industry and radio station ventures, having owned, managed and been sales manager of radio stations in Henderson and Oxford, NC, as well as Nashville, Franklin and Gallatin. He was named "Mr. Deejay USA" with a permanent plaque placed in the Mr. Deejay USA Hall of Fame in Nashville. Mike hit the Record World Country charts with his first single on Chart Records in the late 1960s, was a regular member of the WWVA Wheeling Jamboree and hosted the live TV show, "Daybreak", with his band The Daybreak Gang in Raleigh, NC. He moved to Nashville in 1969, managed Charlie Louvin, Webb Pierce and later worked for The Joe Taylor Talent Agency. The Hights were house parents at the TN Baptist Children's Home from 1974-1978. Mike also worked for the State of TN Agriculture Experiment Station. He retired in 1992. Survived by: wife of 43 years, Martha Norwood Hight, Franklin, TN; daughter, Michelle "Shelley" Hight, Apex, NC; son, Keith (Janet) Hight, Cleveland, TN; daughter, Marsha (David) Hellstrom, Franklin, TN; granddaughter, Michelle (Stevie) Nichols, Spring Hill, TN; grandson, Kyle Hight, Cleveland, TN; great-granddaughter, Elle Nichols, Spring Hill, TN; sister, Vera Parham, Henderson, NC & several special nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted 10:00 AM Friday, August 27, 2010 at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Family & friends will serve as pallbearers. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Friday after the graveside at Forest Hills Baptist Church, Dr. Jerry Winfield, Dr. Sam Boyd & Rev. Ridley Barron officiating. Memorials may be made to Tennessee Baptist Children's Home, 1310 Franklin Rd., Brentwood, TN 37027. Special thanks goes to Guardian Hospice and Mike's special care team.
