Miss Maria Luisa de Viveiros, age 78, of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, passed away December 30, 2013 at her niece's residence in Brentwood, Tennessee. She was born June 21, 1935 in Santa Cruz, Lagoa, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal. She immigrated to the United States at 19 and eventually became an American citizen. A hard-working person with strong family values, she worked full-time throughout her life while also being the main caregiver to her parents and two of her siblings. She loved music and laughter, and was a great story-teller. Her family will always remember her generosity of spirit, and her courage throughout her illness.
She is preceded in death by her siblings Joé�o de Viveiros of Dartmouth, Massachusetts; Maria dos Anjos Tavares of New Bedford, Massachusetts; Leonardo de Viveiros of Vancouver, British Columbia; Valdemira da Rocha of New Bedford, Massachusetts; and Manuel de Viveiros of Mississauga, Ontario. She was preceded in death also by her nieces Ana Maria Pereira of Montreal, Quebec, and Nancy De Viveiros of Mississauga, Ontario. She is survived by her sisters Merces Pereira of Boisbriand, Quebec, and Evangelina de Viveiros of Dartmouth, Massachusetts; and by her nieces and nephews, Maria dos Anjos Soares, Joe Tavares, Maria Moore, Margaret Warren, Angelo De Viveiros, Eva De Viveiros, Edoardo Pereira, Gloria Pereira, Frank da Rocha, Ana Bourque, Maria da Rocha, and Gary de Viveiros as well as many great-nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass was held January 3, 2014 at St. Philip Catholic Church in Franklin, Tennessee. Additional Memorial Services will be conducted at a date to be announced at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Memorials in her name may be made to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203.
