Neill, Charles Thomas "Tom", age 68 passed away Monday, August 6, 2012, after a brief illness. Born in Florence, AL to the late Darnell Dukes Neill and Glenn Neill. Graduate of Kingsbury High in Memphis, TN and the University of Memphis where he was a member of Kappa Sigma and the Air Force ROTC. Upon graduation from the University of Memphis, he joined the Tennessee Army National Guard and served as an officer for 21 years in the US Army National Guard and Reserves. He was a graduate of the US Army and General Staff College and the US Army Officer Advanced and Officer Basic School - Field Artillery. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. A distinguished career as a healthcare executive beginning at Hospital Corporation of America, 1977-1987. He then served as the Chairman of the ESOP for HealthTrust, Inc., from 1987-1991. During 1991-2001, Quorum Health Group and retired as senior vice president. As a healthcare executive, he served professionally in many organizations including as a Director, Legislative Chairman, and Chairman FedPAC of the Federation of American Health Systems, Washington, D.C. Served on the Board of Governors and the Regional Policy Board for the American Hospital Association in Washington, D.C. Also in Washington, D.C., served as a director on both the Healthcare Leadership Council and the National Employee Stock Ownership Association. Other positions include Director of the Mary Black Regional Health System, Spartanburg, SC, and Director of Park Medical Center, Columbus, OH. Served as Director for The National Center for Employee Ownership in San Francisco, CA, Director of the National Employee Stock Ownership Association in Washington, D.C., and Chairman and Director, Questar Partners, Inc. located in Brentwood, TN. Many would describe Tom as having a heart for service and good citizenship. Served on the Williamson County Board of Education, the Williamson County Commision, and the Williamson County Planning Commission. Past president of the Brentwood Civitan Club, a director of the YMCA , and chairman of the Middle Tennesee Healthcare Foundation. At the time of his death, Tom was also the Vice Chairman of the Williamson County Medical Center Foundation and Vice Chairman of the Williamson County Emergency Communications Board. Tom was a recipient of the Donald S. MacNaughton Award for Outstanding Civic and Community Service. After retirement, served as a volunteer with the Williamson County Sheriff''s Department. He founded and was president of the Williamson County Law Enforcement Foundation which raised money for the benefit of all law enforcement agencies in Williamson County as well as for services to individual members. A passionate pilot and had earned his commercial, instrument, and multi-engine ratings. Since the age of 12, Tom was an amateur radio operator who had his Extra Class Amateur Radio license and was known around the world as K4XG. An active member of WCARES through which amateur radio operators with the ARRL provide emergency communications services for Williamson County. Survived by his wife of over 46 years, Cheryl Murphrey Neill, and daughters Stephanie Neill Hube (Eric) of Collierville, TN, and Melissa Neill Webb (Jason) of Lynnville, TN; grandchildren, Tristan Hube, Colin Hube, Caroline Hube, and Carter Webb; father-in-law James Walter Murphrey of Memphis, TN and other loving family members. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to The Bodine School, 2432 Yester Oaks Drive, Germantown, TN 38139 or Happy Tails Humane, 230 Franklin Rd., Suite 1303, Franklin, TN 37064. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, August 9, 2012, from 10am until 12 noon at Brentwood Baptist Church. A brief memorial service will follow at 12 noon.
