WHITE, Mr. J. Joe, Brentwood, died May 14, following a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Lindale, Ga., in 1935, he was the son of the late Hershel Clyde White and Frances Wyley White. Known for his dedication to his immediate and extended family, friends, and clients, he leaves behind loving and supportive wife Carolyn Maupin White; daughters Jennifer Boyd (Shane) and Kristan White (David Robinson); brother Franklin Clyde "Bud" White; sisters-in law Helen Stansell, Faye White, Elise Payne (Dub), and Suma Clark (Jack Ross); many nieces and nephews and other family members; and numerous caring friends. He was preceded in death by brothers Charles Eugene White, Sr., and Robert Henry White. Completing his education at Georgia State College, Atlanta, Joe served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Highly respected for his lifelong work in insurance, which began in 1960, Joe's career included serving as branch manager at Crum and Forster, director of sales at Martin Hayes and Company, and managing director at Marsh & McLennan. He retired in 1998. Professional and community involvement includes serving on the boards of Tennessee Road Builders' Association and Battle Ground Academy; chairing the board of Harpeth Academy; and being a member of Tennessee Asphalt Association and Brentwood Country Club. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Franklin, and also attended East Brentwood Presbyterian Church. Services will be Saturday, May 22, at 1:00 p.m. at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens, 3009 Columbia Ave., Franklin, conducted by Rev. Jerry Smith. Burial will follow. Pallbearers will be nephews and other close relatives. Honorary pallbearers will be longtime friends from his business associations and Cross Corner. Visitation is Friday, May 21, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Williamson Memorial.
