Mr. John Moran

July 6, 1925 — September 9, 2010

MORAN, Mr. John Davis, age 85 of Franklin, TN, passed away September 9, 2010 with his family at his bedside. Long time resident of Williamson County; not living in county only when he humbly served & saw military action for his country during World War II in the Pacific on several ships including USS Alabama. His love of his country, state & county could only be exceeded by his love for his family! He was the Rock of his family! Unwavering, loyal & steadfast in his beliefs, he epitomized the strength of the greatest generation this country ever had that was eulogized in Tom Brokow's book "The Greatest Generation". He graduated from Franklin High School; attended Vanderbilt University; worked & was officer at Third National Bank for 43 years. Served on Battle Ground Academy's Board of Directors for 27 years, where he was head of school properties. He didn't miss a home football game for over 40 years. He was assistant Boy Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher; member of Berry Chapel Church of Christ. Served on the planning commission for Williamson County for 8 years. Preceded in death by his parents, Jeff & Alexina Sawyer Moran; brothers, T.J., Robert, Houston & Everett Moran. Survived by: wife of 64 years, Joan Carr Moran; sons, John (Janet) Moran, Jr. & Sam Houston (Melanie) Moran; sisters, Lula Fain Major all of Franklin, TN & Alene Warnock, Bennington, VT; grandchildren, Katie Moran (Joel) Bostrum, John (Gena) Moran III, Jackson (Anna) Moran, Sam Houston Moran, Jr., Robert Shannon Moran, Thomas Hasty Moran & Charles Nathan Sawyer Moran; great grandchildren, Tillie & Miller Bostrum & Kessler Moran; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, September 13, 2010 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Myron Keith & Andy Baker officiating. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery. Grandchildren & nephew, Joe Moran will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be retired employees of Third National Bank, Jody Bowman, Johnny New, Ed & Jim Moody. Memorials may be made to the John & Joan Moran Scholarship Fund, c/o Battle Ground Academy, P.O. Box 1889, Franklin, TN 37065 or Berry's Chapel Church of Christ, 1770 So.
