Mr. Michael McGuire

Michael Edwin McGuire, age 75, passed away peacefully Friday, October 3, 2014, at Alive Hospice in Nashville.
A celebration of life will be held at Williamson Memorial, in Franklin, TN on Tuesday, October 7. Visitation with friends and family will start at 3:30PM with the celebration of life at 5:00PM.
Mike was born in Muncie, Indiana, October 18, 1938, to the late Edwin McGuire and Leona Falls. He graduated from Yorktown High School, Yorktown, Indiana, in 1956. He joined the Marines at age 17 and left the corps at age 19, September, 1958. He met his wife of 52 years, Barbara McGuire, in October and started attending Ball State University in January with her. Mike and Barb were married in July, 1962, and moved to Seattle, Washington. Mike attended University of Washington, where he received his BS degree. Mike and Barb moved back to Muncie in 1964, where their oldest son Scott was born and where he received his MA degree. Mike and Barb then moved to Michigan where he taught school one year in Petoskey, MI, and then they moved to East Lansing where he attended Michigan State University. Mike earned his PhD and decided he wanted to go back to Washington State. He taught at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, where his other son Matt was born. In 1972 the McGuire family moved to Nashville, TN, where Mike worked for the State of Tennessee as Assistant Commissioner and Director in the Economic Development Department. He was very involved with a lot of development in TN, the Appalachian Regional Commission, the Delta Commission, TERDA, and other agencies. He retired in 2002 and moved to Winchester where he and Barb had built a house on Tims Ford Lake. He loved to fish, ride in his boat, play pool, and just enjoy the beautiful outdoors of TN. He and Barb moved to Franklin, TN in 2012 to be closer to family and grandkids.
Mike is survived by his wife Barbara, sons Scott (Sheila), Matt (Michelle), grandsons Connor and Benjamin, and granddaughters Abigail and Linnea. Mike's sister, Rhonda Williams, still lives in Muncie, Indiana.
