Mrs. Allene Clarkson

March 20, 1914 — January 29, 2013

CLARKSON, Allene Cornelius - Age 98 of Franklin, passed away Tuesday evening, January 29. She was born in Nashville on March 20, 1914, to Allen R. and Ruth Crutcher Cornelius. She was a graduate of Hume Fogg High School and attended Vanderbilt University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. In August of 1936 she married her husband of 62 years, Tommy Clarkson, whom she survived. She also survived two sons, Allen and Chuck, and her five younger siblings. She is survived by her sons, Tom (Kay) and Bill; her sister-in-law, Ruth Cornelius; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren. The family moved to Williamson County in December of 1941, and lived in the same home for over 65 years. Allene was a member of the Pioneer Home Demonstration Club, the Sewing Club, and the DAR. From the late 1960s into the 1980s, she and Tommy operated The Book & Hobby Shop on Fourth Avenue in Franklin. She was much in demand then to give book reviews at club meetings and on the local television channel. A memorial service will be held at the Historic Franklin Presbyterian Church on Saturday, February 16, at 1:30 pm, followed by a reception with her family.
