COLE, Mrs. Ann Looney, 96, former longtime resident of Franklin, Tennessee, passed away in Louisville, KY on March 16, 2012. Born to Dr. Oscar Hughes Looney and Myrtle Owens Looney, she attended Central High School in Nashville and went on to graduate from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in 1937. Mrs. Cole had a long career in public health nursing, serving with the Williamson County Health Department. She also served as Franklin School System nurse for many years and was an active member of the Tennessee Nurses Association. Mrs. Cole was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Haywood Cole, longtime principal of Grassland School. While married, they raised three daughters and enjoyed fishing and traveling throughout the U.S. While Haywood only missed Hawaii, Ann was proud to say she visited all 50 states. As a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Franklin, TN, she taught the primary Sunday School Class for many years. After retirement she was an active member of the Williamson County Chapter of the DAR and the Franklin Pioneer Club. She was awarded the "Helping Hand"award for community service in 1984. In 1990, she moved to Louisville, KY where she was a dedicated member of St. Matthews Baptist Church and was especially devoted to the Lydia Sunday School class. Her first experience in Louisville was in 1937 as a Red Cross volunteer assisting with relief efforts after the Great Flood of 1937. Mrs. Cole enjoyed serving her community and especially taking care of those less fortunate. She was a remarkable woman and retained her independent spirit, sense of humor, and good nature until the end. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her. She is also preceded in death by her twin sister Agnes McGlothlin, and younger sister Myrtle Pelton. Survivors include three loving daughters, Polly Cole (Mike Pitts), Sally Blank (Bill), and Carolyn Cole (Paul Guagliardo); five grandchildren, Lisa Blank Trumps, Benjamin Cole Blank, Michele Guagliardo Steadman, Ann Guagliardo Reynolds, and Louis Cole Guagliardo; and three great grandchildren, Emily, Will and Jayne Trumps. Visitation will be 11AM-12:30PM Monday and the funeral service will be held 12:30PM Monday at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Jim Taylor officiating. Burial 2:00PM Monday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville, TN. Contributions may be made to Vanderbilt School of Nursing Scholarship Fund or the charity of your choice.
